“I miss myself.”
The onslaught of the Christmas rush here at the cafe leaves little time for anything else but hard graft and the painful reality of it is, I lose myself in this process and my family and I, miss me.
January, inevitably is a month for re-grouping, thinking, planning.
I don’t normally go in for New Year’s resolutions but find myself making space physically, moving furniture, clearing out… this process normally begins at home and is mirrored at work.
Once the deep cleaning, stockroom tidying, Christmas paraphernalia is boxed up, there is time for ideas.
I believe it’s natural for anyone that works with children to be inspired by their own family and as I watch mine grow, I remind myself what I searched out and craved for when they were smaller. Memories re-lived by making space.
Next week we’ll be re-launching Little Punks and it’s just the kind of session that I would’ve attended.
If you’re wondering what it’ll be like…
Easels, collaborative colouring with my favourite drawing materials, arts based stuff to do (not very many ceramics) the odd bit of sensory play, good tunes rather than nursery rhymes and chat about length of nap times and butternut squash for lunch banned.
Keep an eye out for more details, the first session will be on Tuesday 21st January.
