Here are answers to the questions we get asked most frequently. This not an exhaustive list, because there’s alot happening at the Café and we update our Ceramics frequently.
If you have something in mind not dealt with here, please give the team a call on 020 7732 6688 or use the contact form to get in touch.
We’ll see you soon!
Do I need to book?
We operate a drop-in service here at the café so we only take bookings for groups larger than 6 people or for baby hand-prints or imprints. If this applies to you, just give us a call on 02077326688 or email to make a booking enquiry.
How long will it be until I can collect my ceramics?
We fire everything here on site and if using our STANDARD SERVICE your ceramics will be ready 7 days later. If you need things quicker, we offer a FAST-TRACK SERVICE and can generally have your ceramics ready for you within a few days, this is an extra £5 per item but do Check with us before you leave for current lead times.
Will you call to tell me that my ceramics are ready?
You will not receive a phone call from us to say than your ceramics are ready for collection unless we have painted something for you as a commission, you used our FAST-TRACK service, you made a clay imprint or you had a Birthday Party with us.
How much does it cost?
We have ceramics to suit all price ranges: figures start from £10, mugs from £12 and larger items like dinner plates being £18. We charge a studio fee, this is a one off payment, which covers the cost of paint and firing your items.
As an example, if you are visiting us with your child, they are painting something suitable on their own and including light refreshments for both of you, you’ll typically spend £20 – £25 over 90 minutes depending on how long you take to paint or play in our garden out front!
What is a studio fee?
Studio fees are a one-off cover charge. At just £3.50 for a child (over 2), £4.50 for concessions, £5 for an adult and £5.50 for an adult and a child under 2, you can paint as many items as you like. They cover the cost of painting and firing your ceramics. If you do not finish painting your ceramics within our opening times you will be charged an additional studio fee on your return visit.
What’s the right age for a party?
Here at Punk Me Up we appreciate just how different every group of children are and so we adjust our party plan along the way according to their interests and mood!!
Will there be games and music?
All of our party packages include games, dressing up and a mini-disco. If you’d like more time for playing and dancing and your little Punk or Buttercup loves pass the parcel(ages 7 and under) then opt for a Gold Package which is 2 hours rather than Bronze or Silver which are 90 mins long.
My daughter and her friends are too old for dressing up…
Themed gatherings are a definite ‘faux pas’ for our older guests; however, we’ve yet to see a Punk resist our tutus and headdresses if left for long enough near our magical cabinet!
What’s the maximum number of children for a party at the café?
It depends on the age of the children attending. Ask us when booking your party. We know that the younger children are, the more space they need! The room capacity includes adults and children, so please be clear about who you are expecting to be attending the party when booking.
What’s the minimum number of children for a party?
If you’d like a weekend party then our minimum number of children is 13.
How will you know which Dinosaur is mine?
When you have finished painting your chosen ceramics, we will take some basic details from you, photograph your masterpieces and pop a small code, where possible onto the bottom. This allows us to track your items through our system and means that we are able to pack everything for you, ready for collection. No more eeny-meeny-miny-mo!
Do you do food?
We currently serve great Italian coffee, loose leaf teas from Little Sparrow, a selection of cold drinks and delicious hand-made cakes. Our parties are all catered for in house.
Can I have my child’s party at the café?
Birthday parties at our café are very popular. We are happy to reserve your slot with a £50 deposit (which is non-refundable), after all Birthdays are only once a year and we’d hate for your Punk or Buttercup to miss out! Please note, our party packages are based on 13+ children.
What are your opening hours?
Check here for up to date opening hours. We are closed on Wednesdays (inc. for collections) and it’s always last painter 1 hour before closing.
How long will you keep my ceramics?
We have limited space here at the cafe and so we are able to hold onto your ceramics for 6 weeks after the date that you painted them. Please come and collect them within that time.
Will the paint ruin my daughter’s favourite party dress?
All of our paint is water-based and will come out in the wash.
Can you cater for adults guests at a children’s party?
If you fancy some fizz on the day, its BYOB. There is a corkage charge of £20 which includes glasses and some nibbles just ask us.
Can you cater for allergies?
We always do our best to adapt our menu but please give us plenty of notice. Please note we cannot guarantee a nut free environment as some of our cakes do contain nuts. If you are concerned then we are happy to provide you with one of our Bento boxes so that you can bring your own packed lunch to the table.
I’ve booked my party, now what?
If there are any changes in your booking, such as the number of children or the theme, please give us a call. When sending out your invites please check if there are any food allergies and we will be in touch a week before to confirm final numbers.
How do takeaway kits work?
Take away kits are a great way to take the fun home with you! Whether you want to just take your time in your own space, or whether you would like to get the whole family involved, it’s very simple! All you need to do is collect the ceramics you would like to paint from the shop and we will give you pencils, paints and a plate to show you how the ceramics will look once fired. It is very important to only use equipment that we have given you, as other paints and pencils may not work with our kiln temperature.
Are my ceramics dishwasher safe?
We recommend you do not put the ceramics in the dishwasher as it will reduce the longevity of the ceramic. However, popping a mug in the dishwasher now and then won’t do too much harm!
Can I bring my birthday cake to the party?
Of course! We recommend South East Cakery, but if you would prefer to make your own, you can do that too. There will be a small fee of £5. We provide napkins and plates etc.
I’ve paid a deposit for booking, is it refundable?
Deposits are non-refundable. Where possible we will offer you an alternative slot, provided you give us plenty of notice.
