E – How long have you worked at Punk Me Up?
N – One and half… no, actually, I’ve done 2 Christmases here, so it must be 2 and a bit years.
E – How did you get the job at Punk Me Up?
N – Through an advert on the internet for a painter, I applied and got it.
E – What qualifications would you need for this job?
N – Art experience and an art background.
E – What was your funniest moment at Punk Me Up?
N – When Toni’s dog, Dave, did a wee when there was a yoga class going on!
E – What was your scariest moment at Punk Me Up?
N – When I dropped a bag of ceramics, and had to open it and see if what was inside was smashed to bits…
E – What does your job entail?
N – Painting ceramics, doing the window art, painting displays and serving coffee and cakes.
E – With the ceramic painting, I see that you are the person who paints all those lovely baby hand and foot prints… what do you have to do?
N – Well, it’s a really long process, first I have to clean the clay so that it’s perfect, then I paint a wash over the hand/foot print, in whatever colour has been chosen, then I start on the text, that’s the thing that takes the most time. I write on the clay in pencil first, then I paint the text on, I have to do three layers, it takes quite a long time!
E – So how long does each print take?
N – Well, it depends on the amount of text, but it can take up to an hour for each print.
E – Wow! I had no idea it took so long. They are so beautiful, people must really treasure them! What do you do in your spare time?
N – Cooking, drawing and lots of crafty things.
E – How do you stay so focused while you are painting?
N – I don’t know if I do, I do get a bit distracted! But you do have to concentrate quite hard in the job I’m doing.
E – I have also noticed that sometimes you have headphones… what are you listening to?
N – A lot of podcasts.
E – Do you have any pets?
N – No, I don’t have at the moment, but I used to have a poodle.
E – If someone else wanted to do your job what advice would you give?
N – Focus on drawing, the more experience you have the more confident you are.
E – We’re done! Thank you.
N – Cool!
